Beginning in 1926, several generations of inhabitants along the Canadian National line between Capreol and Foleyet in northern Ontario came by canoe or on snowshoes to CNR School on Wheels Number One, a railway car in which she and her husband lived and taught school. Many families of railwaymen, woodsmen, Indians and immigrants were educated, children and adults learning the skills required to cope with isolation and an evolving society.
