Having joined the Edmonton Police in 1938, he rose to Chief Constable in 1968 and served in this post until retirement in 1974. He is a life member and former vice-president of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police and helped to form a similar body in western Canada. He has also been active in service clubs and youth and sports programs in his community.
