Mrs. Sheardown served with her husband, John Sheardown, a member of the Canadian Embassy in Tehran, during the Islamic Revolution. At serious risk but with courage and foresight, she sheltered a group of Americans in her home for over two months while plans were being made for their escape from the country. She thus contributed significantly to the success of the "Canadian Caper".
