He is a model of selflessness whose concern for others serves as his guiding principle. A physician and former politician, he has always demonstrated a compassionate and outstanding commitment to helping the less fortunate both at home and abroad. Founding Director of the North Preston Medical and Child Care Society, he was instrumental in improving the quality of health care to under-serviced communities. As mayor, he established Dartmouth as a "Healthy Community" and introduced an annual celebration of multiculturalism. Following his retirement as Premier, he volunteered his medical expertise to various international health projects.
