Joseph Schatzker, who is professor emeritus at the University of Toronto, is a renowned orthopaedic surgeon and teacher. In 1968, he introduced to North America the method of operative fracture treatment that has become standard practice. Since then, he has developed a classification of fractures of the proximal tibia that is accepted universally. In addition, he has mentored countless specialists in many countries, and co-authored several text books, including the standard reference, The Rationale of Operative Fracture Care.
