A writer, playwright, filmmaker and educator, Maria Campbell is one of Canada's most influential Aboriginal artists. Through works such as her autobiography, Halfbreed, and Flight, the first all-Aboriginal theatre production in Canada, she has played a seminal role in documenting the daily experience and oral history of contemporary Aboriginal peoples, notably the Métis. Her daring and candid style has helped sensitize the Canadian public to many social issues relating to our Aboriginal communities. A dynamic lecturer, she continues to promote awareness and understanding between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples around the world.
