This professor and administrator played a leading role in the development of engineering education in Canada. A veteran of the Signals Corps during World War II, George Holbrook entered academia with a vision of the growing importance of engineering to the development of post-war Canada. In 1950, he joined the Royal Military College and founded the Department of Electrical Engineering. Later, as president of the Nova Scotia Technical College, he led the establishment of the Department of Industrial Engineering and the School of Architecture. Highly respected as a mentor, innovator and leader, he has been an influential role model to generations of students and colleagues.
