John Last is an authoritative voice in public health. Professor emeritus of epidemiology and community medicine at the University of Ottawa, he has shaped the field of public health through his influential publications. Many of his books, including Public Health and Human Ecology and A Dictionary of Epidemiology, are used by practitioners, scholars and students alike; some of his publications have been translated into several languages. Also active in his professional community, he led an initiative of the International Epidemiological Association to develop ethical guidelines for the discipline.
