    For his contributions to health care and to the advancement of cardiology research. Jean-Claude Tardif has played a role in furthering our understanding of heart disease. A professor, cardiologist and director of the Montreal Heart Institute Research Centre, he also established the Montreal Health Innovations Coordinating Center and the Beaulieu-Saucier Pharmacogenomics Centre. He is known for his work on treatments to reverse the process of atherosclerosis and is a pioneer in using intravascular ultrasound to assess coronary heart disease. He has also studied the role that genes play in the effectiveness of medications used to treat cardiovascular diseases, making him a leader in the field.
