Donald Enarson has transformed our global understanding of tuberculosis and lung disease. A scientist, physician and professor at the University of Alberta, he committed his expertise in epidemiology, evidence-based research and program development to advancing treatments for respiratory conditions in under-resourced countries. For close to two decades, he served as director of scientific activities with the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease. His seminal research on sustained control and patient outcome was adopted by the World Health Organization, and implemented in health policy and programs around the world.
