Professor of quantitative ecology at Université de Montréal, Pierre Legendre is the co-founder of numerical ecology, a subdiscipline of community ecology. This innovative discipline uses quantitative analysis to model complex field data and test ecological theories and hypotheses. In addition to his research, notably on spatio-temporal analyses and biological diversity, he has developed several new analytical methods and publicly shares his statistical software, which has applications beyond biology. Renowned as a mentor and dynamic teacher of quantitative analysis methods in 19 countries, he is one of the few most-cited ecologists in the world.
