As the senior operations officer for the United Nations Protection Force in the former Yugoslavia from July 1992 to January 1993, Major Jackson was instrumental in producing contingency plans for unit deployment, convoy escorts and the evacuation of civilian refugees. His performance of his duties was superlative, especially when he was operating in the field under the threat of armed intervention from all sides. His leadership and personal supervision significantly enhanced the United Nations' reputation and role with the warring factions.
