As Leadyard Commander overseeing the construction of Canadian Patrol Frigates from October 1986 to July 1989, Commander Hansen demonstrated outstanding performance in the field of Quality Assurance Surveillance. Working under circumstances which involved a new method of construction and unprecedented standards of quality and contractor responsibility, Commander Hansen's ingenuity, industriousness, and initiative led to system improvements to both this and future ship construction programmes. In so doing, his knowledge and professionalism have produced long-term benefits for the Canadian Forces and Canada.
