As the section head for Submarine Requirements for the Royal Canadian Navy from 2019 to 2022, Commander Byrne demonstrated steadfast resolve throughout the successful identification and options analysis phases, bringing clarity and direction to the largest submarine procurement project ever undertaken by Canada. His extensive operational experience, coupled with his in-depth knowledge of submarines, established the foundation for the current and future naval submarine program.
