From June 2018 to March 2019, Lieutenant-Colonel Kenney deployed to Iraq as commanding officer of the Qayyarah West Training Team. He demonstrated leadership and initiative in planning and implementing a comprehensive training program for the Iraqi defence forces, and provided senior members of his team with the opportunity to mentor their Iraqi counterparts. He also helped to establish a new headquarters to support several Canadian teams in the theatre. Lieutenant-Colonel Kenney’s unwavering determination had a positive impact on the Canadian presence in the region.
