Major Gilbride deployed from July 2018 to January 2019 as a surgeon with Task Force Mali and as team lead of the Canadian Medical Evacuation Response Team. He brilliantly accomplished Canada’s goal of aeromedical evacuation by leading an effective team despite the challenges presented by the austere and dangerous environment of this region. By promoting an inclusive approach and prioritizing the well-being of the soldiers, he established numerous partnerships with medical representatives from other countries involved in the UN mission in Mali and earned the trust and respect of his peers.
