On 14 October 2017, while serving aboard HMCS Montréal, Leading Seaman Parkhill demonstrated exceptional skill and courage while conducting an urgent nighttime repatriation of military personnel in the Atlantic Ocean. Despite low visibility, frigid weather and deteriorating conditions, he readily volunteered to pilot a rigid-hulled inflatable boat 70 kilometres in the dark to Liverpool, United Kingdom. For eight hours, he expertly navigated the boat through heavy seas and unfamiliar waters, safely delivering the repatriated member.
