Meritorious Service Medal (civil division)

As national chairman of the 50th Anniversary of the Korean War Commemoration Committee, Korean General Sun Yup Paik oversaw and organized the Government of Korea’s activities held between 2000 and 2003 to commemorate the Korean War. A strong supporter of our country and its veterans, the former ambassador to Canada took a personal and active interest in the construction of the Monument to Canadian Fallen in the Korean War. Unveiled in Pusan in November 2001, the memorial honours the sacrifice of 516 Canadian soldiers, sailors and airmen who died for the freedom of the Republic of Korea.
