Father Huijbers has worked for more than forty years as a missionary among the first peoples of the Yukon. He has continued his ministry through minus forty degree temperatures, heavy snow, non-existent roads, and travel by dogsled. At the age of sixty-five, he rebuilt a dilapidated church in Mayo with help from local volunteers and financial aid from the Netherlands, his native country.
