Albert Bamboukian, M.S.M., Calgary, Alta.
Meritorious Service Medal (civil division)
At the time of Iraq's invasion, Mr. Bamboukian was teaching in Kuwait. During the period following the invasion, he offered daily assistance to the Canadian Embassy in Kuwait. He facilitated the issuance of more than six hundred immigrant visas for the individuals hoping to leave the country. After the Canadian Embassy was surrounded, he surreptitiously provided help to the Embassy. He also helped to contact those foreign nationals who were in hiding and, on the day of the Canadian evacuation flight, helped transport to the airport the spouses and children of Canadian and foreign nationals in hiding.
