Music producer Darcy Ataman founded Make Music Matter to help survivors of conflict and violence in war-torn nations overcome emotional trauma by writing and recording songs about their experiences. Working in eight countries including Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and with Syrian refugees in Turkey, the non-profit organization gives women and youth a voice to showcase their resilience as they confront the past and strive to transcend it.
