On December 12, 2005, Sgt Bradley’s patrol convoy sustained an improvised explosive device attack in Ghorak, Afghanistan. As the patrol commander was seriously injured, Sgt Bradley assumed command of the scene. He cordoned off the area, cleared a lane to the damaged vehicle and directed the Afghanistan National Security to apprehend two suspects. Despite the threat of subsequent attacks, the loss of a quarter of the convoy’s fire power and the distance separating them from potential reinforcements, the casualties were rescued and evacuated thanks to Sgt Bradley’s sound judgment and vigilance.
