In late December 1992, airlift plans already in place in Somalia had to be altered drastically because of an increased Canadian commitment to humanitarian aid and peace enforcement. As the recently appointed Air Staff Officer to Headquarters Canadian Joint Forces Somalia, Major Thain, though under extreme pressure, worked tirelessly and far beyond the demands of normal duty to coordinate vast changes in airflow, simultaneously allowing the humanitarian relief airlift to continue.
