On September 30, 2013, off-duty firefighter Domenic Dubreuil rescued several victims from a four-car pileup on a highway near Rapid City, South Dakota. While assisting a woman pinned inside her car, Mr. Dubreuil noticed smoke coming from a truck where bystanders were attempting to remove the driver. He went over to the vehicle, tore out the window and partially slid inside. He managed to free the victim's legs and pull him out just moments before an explosion occurred. Mr. Dubreuil then protected another victim from the burning embers while waiting for further assistance.
