Master Corporal Caleb W. McPhail, M.B., C.D.
Medal of Bravery
On July 4, 2010, Master Corporal Caleb McPhail successfully evacuated the residents of a burning apartment building, in St. Thomas, Ontario. Master Corporal McPhail, who was not on duty at the time, was passing by the building when he noticed smoke and flames coming from a second-floor window. Disregarding his own safety, he ran inside as thick, black smoke poured from the doorway. Using a small flashlight attached to his keychain, he ran upstairs to warn the occupants. After he had gotten some of the residents outside, Master Corporal McPhail went back up to the burning apartment and kicked open the door. He located the disoriented tenant and brought him outside just as the fire department arrived.
