Stéphanie Labbé, S.C. (posthumous)
Star of Courage
On February 25, 2011, 14-year-old Stéphanie Labbé lost her life while trying to rescue her two-year-old sister from their burning house, in Deschambault, Quebec. After noticing flames on the main floor, their mother yelled at her five children to run outside. Stéphanie rushed to get her little sister, who was sleeping in an upstairs room. She wrapped the toddler in a blanket and ran to a window, where her family outside yelled at her to jump. Fearing that the fall would harm the child, Stéphanie made her way down the smoke-filled staircase. Tragically, they did not make it outside and neither of the girls survived. Stéphanie showed great courage in trying to save her little sister.
