Medal of Bravery
On May 13, 2009, Freddy Borau, Tyler Bell-Morena, Paul Bergeron, Yves Ducharme and Gunter Lambeets rescued Mr. Borau's elderly mother from her burning house, in Hemmingford, Quebec. Mr. Borau was at home with his mother and his stepson, Tyler Bell-Morena, when the fire broke out in the living room. With Tyler's help, Mr. Borau was able to bring his mother closer to the front door of the residence, but lost hold of her in the thickening smoke and rapidly spreading flames. The two men stumbled out, suffering from smoke inhalation and burns. At that point, neighbours Paul Bergeron, Yves Ducharme and Gunter Lambeets crawled inside the house to locate the victim. After retreating several times to get air, they successfully pulled the woman to safety.
