Medal of Bravery
On April 1, 2011, York Regional Police constables Warren Fo Sing and Michael Mulville rescued a man from Milne Pond, in Markham, Ontario. Dispatched to the scene, the police officers found the victim walking on the fragile ice surface, several metres from shore, attempting to reach his dog a further distance away. Constables Fo Sing and Mulville took out the rear seat of their cruiser and slid it out to the victim. The man grabbed the length of rope tied to the seat but, intent on rescuing his pet, ran towards it and fell in the water. The constables advanced towards him, the thin ice cracking beneath their steps. They threw a rope to the victim and, despite the slippery surface, managed to pull him out and drag him closer to the shore while firefighters rescued the dog.
