Jean-François Bernier, M.B.
Medal of Bravery
On July 22, 2010, Jean-François Bernier risked his life to rescue two people from a possible drowning, in Rivière-Pentecôte, Quebec. Mr. Bernier and members of his family were at the beach, standing on shore while their children played in the waves with their grandmother. Suddenly, the swimmers were caught in a strong current that pushed them apart. Hearing their cries for help, the parents entered the rough waters and grabbed the children who were closest to shore while Mr. Bernier swam out to the last child who was further away. He dove underwater to find the boy, brought him up to the surface and revived him. Struggling against the current, Mr. Bernier managed to bring both the boy and the grandmother safely to shore.
