    On October 27, 2006, constables James Orser and Bruce Thompson of the Ontario Provincial Police attempted to rescue three children from a burning building, in Campbellford, Ontario. Twice, Constable Thompson entered into the blazing apartment in an attempt to reach the victims, but both times, he was forced out due to the extreme heat and smoke. Constable Thompson again re-entered, this time with Constable Orser, but the officers were unsuccessful in reaching any of the children. Firefighters arrived and pulled the victims from the blaze. Sadly, two of the young victims did not survive.
