On August 18, 2002, ten-year-old Paul Miron Jr. risked his life when he attempted to save a three-year-old girl from drowning in the Ottawa River in Quyon, Quebec. The children were playing on the beach when the little girl ventured into the river and was swept away by the undercurrent. Catching a glimpse of her head resurfacing, Paul rushed into the river, and battled the powerful waters until he reached her side. Weak and exhausted, he kept himself afloat while pushing the unconscious little girl's limp body against the flow of water to shore. Regrettably, despite Paul's efforts, the young victim could not be revived.
