On March 3, 2002, 14-year-old Angie Campbell rescued her younger brother and sister from a fiery death in Wasaga Beach, Ontario. Angie was watching television in the living room of their home when she heard screams coming from the basement. She raced down the stairs where she was met by a wall of fire. Without hesitation, Angie ran through it before locating her siblings trapped behind a flaming mattress in a smoke-filled crawlspace. In spite of the rapidly spreading fire, she moved the mattress out of the way with her bare hands. She then picked up her six-year-old sister and lifted her over the staircase railing before returning for her four-year-old brother. Despite severe burns to her hands and forearms, she then managed to hold both children under her arms and carry them outside to safety.
