On July 13, 1999, in Tilbury, Ontario, Marc Gagnon lost his life after preventing a colleague from being struck by falling loads of plywood boards. Mr. Gagnon and his colleague were stacking bundles of boards when the skids of plywood on the forklift behind them began to shift and tip in their direction. Alerted to the danger by another co-worker's scream, Mr. Gagnon disregarded his own safety and jumped to his colleague's side, pushing him out of harm's way. As a result of his valiant efforts to protect his friend, Mr. Gagnon was struck by the falling bundles and crushed beneath the pile. Sadly, he died of his injuries the next day.
