On November 8, 1999, in Kinkaid, Saskatchewan, Douglas Morrison entered a burning vehicle to rescue the unconscious driver whose arm was trapped beneath the dashboard. Mr. Morrison was driving by with his wife when he noticed a car in the ditch, its engine on fire. Seeing a foot protruding from the driver's window, Mr. Morrison immediately ran to the scene and persisted in his efforts until he pried the driver's door open. Braving the intense heat and smoke, he climbed over the unconscious driver and managed with great difficulty to free his arm and to pull him out of the wreckage. Helped by others, he then carried the victim up the embankment, moments before the vehicle erupted into a fireball.
