On March 29, 1999, Richard Nadeau saved a man and a woman trapped in a burning vehicle in Fleurimont, Quebec. Mr. Nadeau was returning home after work at around midnight when he saw a damaged vehicle at the side of the road. Through the flames, he saw two seriously injured people unconscious in the front seat. Unable to open the door, Mr. Nadeau managed to extricate the woman through the window on the passenger side and drag her to safety. Despite the intense heat, Mr. Nadeau returned to the vehicle, but, unable to unfasten the man's seatbelt, he left to get a knife. Once he managed to free the driver, he pulled him out of the wreck through the narrow opening and got him to safety. Unfortunately, a small boy who was not visible due to the flames perished in the burning vehicle.
