On November 27, 1997, eight-year-old Justin Blacklock lost his life in a farm accident to save his six-year-old sister in Port Elgin, New Brunswick. Following a severe snowstorm, electricity was temporarily restored to the farm by a generator hooked to the power takeoff of a tractor. Drawn by curiosity, the children entered the barn to see the equipment and the little girl was kicking at it when her boot lace accidentally became caught in the spinning shaft. Without hesitation, Justin rushed to her rescue. As he struggled to free her, his jacket became entangled and he was fatally wounded.
