On July 27, 1997, 15-year-old Jean-François Legault rescued his father, whose clothes had caught fire in an explosion in Mascouche, Quebec. While he was attempting to repair his tractor mower in his garage, Jean-François' father was thrown to the ground by an explosion and engulfed in flames. Jean-François immediately rushed to the scene with a bucket of water and, ignoring the victim's warnings that the many chemicals stored in the garage could explode at any second, extinguished the flames burning his father, grabbed his arm and dragged him to safety.
