On January 19, 1996, 12-year-old Michelle Batista-Ormonde prevented her sister and a friend from being struck by a speeding car in Toronto, Ontario. Michelle was walking to school with her sister when she noticed the driver, who had been stalking her 12-year-old friend for some time, speed towards the girl some distance away. Michelle screamed warnings to her friend who managed to jump out of the way. Still speeding, the driver headed for the crosswalk and ignored the stop sign. Seeing that her sister was directly in the path of the car, Michelle raced into the street, grabbed her sister by the arm and pulled her to safety.
