On February 7, 1996, Kenny Campbell, then eleven years old, rescued his nine-year-old brother from a house fire in Oxford, Nova Scotia. Kenny's family was asleep when an electrical blaze ripped through their home in the middle of the night. Awakened by the flames, Kenny's father raced to his sons' bedroom, broke the window with his fist and threw Kenny out into a snow bank. A back draft blew him out of the window before he could save his other two sons. Meanwhile, despite serious cuts from the broken glass, Kenny was determined to save his brothers and rushed back to the shattered window. He reached inside the totally engulfed house, grabbed his sibling who was a mass of flames and pulled him out. He then rolled the young victim in the snow while patting out the flames with his hands. Although the boy was severely burned, he recovered from his injuries. Tragically, the inferno claimed the life of the third boy.
