On July 30, 1996, Marie-Ève Renaud rescued a man whose vehicle had been covered by debris from a viaduct collapsing under the weight of a cement truck in Montreal, Quebec. While travelling in her car, Mrs. Renaud heard a rumbling sound coming from a tunnel. She quickly got out of her car and headed to the viaduct where the man was trapped in his car under a pile of debris. In spite of the pieces of concrete falling down on the car, she approached and tried in vain to open the door. Unwilling to abandon the man to his fate, Mrs. Renaud pulled on the door until the rear window shattered. She then grabbed the victim by the arm and pulled him out of his vehicle just a few moments before a huge chunk of concrete came down and completely crushed the car.
