On 25 August 1980, sixteen-year-old Antonio Rosati saved a woman from a determined suicide attempt in the Rivière des Prairies. Young Antonio, who was rowing with two friends near the Pont- Viau bridge, first held out a paddle to the woman, which she refused. Jumping into the water, Antonio attempted to rescue her, but the woman fought him off, several times trying to drag him down. With complete disregard for his own safety, Antonio persisted. After one of the canoeists had tossed him a lifebuoy, he placed it under the woman's head and pulled her fifty metres to shore.
