Euclide Prévost perished while saving the life of a five-year-old boy in the French River near Cow Bay on 8 July 1978. The child had slipped into the water while playing on a shelf of rock along the shore. Alerted by other children, Mr. Prévost came to the rescue. He swam to the child and, straining to hold him above water, he repeatedly sank under the weight. A neighbour who swam out to their aid could save only the boy. Mr. Prévost was drowned.
