Private Gregory Brent Lewis, M.B.
Medal of Bravery
In the early hours of 7 November 1975, when fire had broken out in a large apartment building at Oromocto, New Brunswick, MCpl. Wayne Graham and Pte. Gregory Lewis of Canadian Forces Base Gagetown spread the alarm and aroused several of the tenants. As flames and smoke swept rapidly through the building, the rescuers raced through the corridors pounding on doors. If they got no response, they forced their way in to ensure that no one was left inside. When one woman fainted at the sight of her two trapped children, MCpl. Graham revived her before rescuing them. Pte. Lewis by this time had ventured into another part of the building, where he was caught in the smoke. Obliged to jump from a considerable height, he injured his leg. Shortly afterwards firemen arrived, and all residents were evacuated.
