While at home on the evening of 4 October 1981, James Morrissey ran outside to investigate the sound of a crash. At the end of his driveway he found a burning car resting in the ditch and through the smoke he saw the driver slumped over the other occupant of the vehicle. He broke the window on the passenger's side, reached inside and with great difficulty extricated the unconscious driver. Mr. Morrissey returned to the car and, as a rear tire exploded due to the intense heat, pulled the other man to safety. Seconds later the vehicle was engulfed. The two almost certainly owe their lives to his bravery and determination.
