Lance Leston saved the life of a man in Montreal on 3 August 1979. The man was driving an oil truck which overturned on an access ramp; and he was unconscious as the oil leaked out and caught fire. Mr. Leston, driving in the opposite direction, saw the smoke and followed it to the scene of the accident. He found a tow truck trying to pull open the door of the oil truck with a cable but failing because of the oily ground. Mr. Leston ran to the oil truck, entered the cab through a window and pushed the driver out. The victim was treated in hospital for burns and other injuries.
