Charles Leboeuf, at considerable risk to his own life, went to the aid of two of his friends when the group plunged through the ice with their snowmobiles, on the Ruscom River, near St. Joachim, on the night of December 19, 1973. Mr. Leboeuf scrambled to safety and remained by the edge of the hole to pull one of the victims onto the frozen surface. In the meantime, a fourth member of the party attempted to reach the second victim with a rope but the wind jeopardized his efforts. Seeing his companion helplessly sinking to his death, Mr. Leboeuf promptly entered the freezing water and kept him afloat. The line was finally extended to them and they were lifted onto the ice but sadly, the latter victim could not be revived.
