Ronald King sustained serious injuries when rescuing his family from a fire which destroyed their home in the early hours of December 17, 1973. The flames were concentrated in the second floor hallway, outside the children's bedrooms and hampered movement in the stairwell. Aroused by his son, the rescuer proceeded at once through the smoke and intense heat to guide the youngsters down the stairs. In the excitement, the youngest was briefly forgotten but his father quickly returned to his aid and carried him to safety. Although inflicted with severe burns, Ronald King persisted until the safety of everyone had been assured.
