Theodore W. Kiehlbauch, S.C., Edmonton, AB
Star of Courage
On February 19, 1973, Theodore Kiehlbauch rescued the attendant of an automobile service station. The man had accidentally overturned a drum containing gasoline. Fire broke out and spread quickly through the inflammable materials in the garage. An explosion followed which knocked the attendant senseless to the floor. Breaking a glass panel in the garage door, Theodore Kiehlbauch crawled through dense smoke from burning tires and, in spite of intense heat, succeeded in pulling the unconscious man out of the building moments before the interior of the service station was engulfed in flames.
