Medal of Bravery
Kenneth Gilders and George Maybury removed two men who were trapped during a car pile-up at Sarnia, Ontario, on 16 December 1976. When found by Mr. Gilders and Mr. Maybury the victims were unconscious and fire had broken out in the rear seat of the car. The rescuers attempted to pry open the driver's door, but no effect. At very grave risk, Mr. Maybury then reached through a window and pulled one man from the wreckage. Mr. Gilders then extended his head and shoulders through the opening, cut the other man's seat belt and, moments before the explosion, hauled him to safety.
