Early in the morning of 25 August 1979, Dale Schive was alerted to the fact that flames were coming out of the house across the street. He immediately ran over. Hearing a seven-year-old girl screaming inside the burning house, he climbed a ladder and entered her bedroom through the window, but the thick smoke forced him back. In defiance of danger Mr. Schive re-entered the room wearing a scuba mask, crawled along the floor, found the victim and carried her to the window. Because of his courageous action the child was soon reunited with her family.
